Description
NOVA VISTA RAZER REGULATED D-02W 5.5MM
As far as regulated budget PCP air rifles go, you won’t find many like the Nova Vista Razer Regulated D-02W 5.5mm. A quality made, great performing PCP air rifle at rock bottom price! Get both accuracy and power beyond what rifles deliver at this price range, by a brand we know and love.
This pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) air rifle boasts a 150 cc air capacity, ensuring sufficient powerful shots without adding bulk, of course. With a fill pressure of 250 Bar (3625 psi) you get reliable performance. Because of the .22 calibre (5.5mm) rifled steel barrel, paired with a side-lever action, you’ll have accuracy with every shot. Furthermore, the Razer comes fitted with a sound suppressor (or silencer) to quiet down your shots somewhat. Naturally, you can fit another, more efficient sound moderator by using the Nova Vista Razer Silencer Adapter.
Designed for efficiency, the Razer operates as a repeater, featuring a generous 10-shot magazine capacity for extended shooting sessions. You have complete control, obviously, with the easy to use manual safety mechanism. Furthermore, the Biathlon side-lever cocking is easy and smooth. You also get a two-stage adjustable trigger, so you can personalise the trigger to suit your personal preferences.
Furthermore, you can fit a scope for longer range shooting, thanks to the dovetail scope rail. You also get two sling mounting points, so no need to drill holes into the stock to use a rifle sling.
Nova Vista gave this model a wooden traditional long rifle Monte Carlo style stock. Ambidextrous, of course, so both left and right handed shooters can enjoy shooting it. You get a rubber buttpad for comfortable shouldering, as well as checkering on the grip and forend for easy handling and grip.
Regulated?
In simple terms, the main difference between regulated and non-regulated air rifles lies in their consistency of power output. While non-regulated rifles rely on the gradual depletion of pressure from the cylinder, regulated rifles maintain a constant pressure for each shot.
Unregulated rifles can perform extremely well in terms of consistency. You do need to know your rifle and how to set it up, though. Like optimum fill pressure, sweet spot in the shot string along with however many shots you would get before it dropped off. A regulator removes the need for most of that – you can shoot from full to the reg pressure with minimal variation. However, regulators aren’t magic, because a well set-up unregulated gun can be as consistent as a regulated gun, but a regulated gun ‘should’ be able to maintain it’s consistency over a greater number of shots.
The short answer is YES a regulator does make a difference. But it only makes a difference to the gun in as much as it flattens out the power curve and makes shot-to-shot consistency more reliable.
What it doesn’t do is improve someone’s individual marksmanship skills. You won’t gain a lot more shots in lower capacity air tubes, only in airguns that have larger air reservoirs. A lot of shooters believe you get greater dependability with an unregulated gun, because of less parts that need maintenance and less O-rings to replace.
Getting a regulated or unregulated air rifle largely depends on what you intend to use it for. Competitive shooters tend to gravitate towards regulated, whereas pest-controllers, plinkers and hobby shooters tend to go for unregulated.
Best Buy?
Just like with cars, you get a variety of models at different prices for different uses. This Nova Razer model is perfect for both beginners and shooters with a tight budget. Easy to use features with no complicated design or functionality elements, save for the regulator. Choosing the right rifle usually boils down to two questions. Firstly, what do you want to do? Secondly, what do you want to spend?
If you’re looking to start out with your first PCP air rifle and have a restrictive budget, this rifle is a great option. Also great for plinking, hobby shooters and youngsters, shooting at shorter ranges.
More power and accuracy means longer distance shooting and the Razer’s power is on the lower side of the PCP spectrum. So, there are other models available by Nova Vista and other brands with more power, accuracy and capabilities.
