Every gun stock needs regular care, and Scherell’s Schaftol Dark 50ml will take care or your dark woods! It waterproofs and weatherproofs, feeding the wood to protect it from cracks or breaks. It also beautifies the stock, bringing out all wood grain and natural markings. The German manufactured oil comes in an easy-apply bottle with sponge applicator.

Any wood – and thus, the wood used for gunstocks, too – is hygroscopic. It easily absorbs water, especially when exposed to wind, weather and temperature changes during hunting or target shooting. Humidity may then intrude, causing the gunstock to warp or even crack on drying.

Consequently, the accuracy and thus, the shooting performance of the gun, will be impaired. This may be expensive and sometimes even dangerous. Therefore, any wooden gunstock requires regular treatment with gunstock oil.

This top quality special oil optimally conserves open pore wood. Thanks to anti damp complex, it protects against weathering influences of all kind. In particular, from becoming stained, mottled or rough. You only need a small amount to achieve the desired effect. TIPS

The experts highly recommend that you use gloves and work on a protected surface. This stock oil could cause stains, so make sure to cover the surface you are working on and protect your clothing and hands.

After each hunting or shooting trip, apply the oil with the sponge applicator. Then rub the oil vigorously into the gunstock with an old linen cloth (which should be kept in a closed glass jar) and let it soak in. You should repeat the procedure the next day.

If stains or rough spots formed on the gunstock, use sandpaper (Type 150, fine) until the surface is completely smoothed. Sanded parts must be thoroughly moistened with water or, even better, vinegar. After drying, smooth once more with sandpaper and again rub in the stock oil. When the oil has fully soaked into the wood, the procedure may be repeated with sandpaper (Type 400) and more stock oil.

The more often this treatment is repeated, the better the effect. It will eventually regain its original appearance and have a beautiful dark and dull finish. When the stock oil is applied for the first time to an unfinished wooden gunstock, the oil should be heated to a temperature of from 30ºC to 50ºC and rubbed in with a linen cloth
