When paintball guns began to shoot faster, the drawbacks of CO2 became more apparent. Compressed air is also known as High-Pressure Air (HPA), Nitro, N2 or Nitrogen Tanks. Compressed air is just what it sounds like, compressed atmosphere. It does not freeze or mess up your gun’s O-rings like traditional gas does.

Compressed air’s biggest advantage, however, is consistency. The more consistent pressure results in much more consistent performance. Compressed air is marginally affected by temperature, unlike CO2, making it great for cold weather and electronic guns. While the initial cost is a bit more than for a CO2 tank, you’ll save money going with compressed air in the long run.

The beauty of HPA is that the pressure is much more stable than CO2. Furthermore, changes due to shooting fast or playing in cold weather are barely noticeable. No thick clouds or snow from the barrel, no more layers of frost on the marker body and your accuracy improves due to better velocity consistency. Today’s electropneumatic markers were designed with these tanks in mind.

CO2 and HPA both have pros and cons, but the paintball world is moving towards HPA and HPA filing is becoming more accessible than CO2 filling. These HPA tanks are compatible with almost all paintball markers. Additionally, they feature a pressure gauge, therefore you always know how much air is in the tank.

An added bonus of HPA, is you can invest in a larger Cylinder (like a 4.7L, 6L or 6.8L) to decant into your smaller 13CI Air Tank or 48 CI Air Tank. If you’re looking for an even better solution, you can get a High Pressure Air Compressor and refill your own tanks!
